President Jokowi Applauds Preconditions for New Normal in Banyuwangi’s Tourism Sector

As part of his working visit to East Java province, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Thursday (25/6) visited So Long Villa and So Long Beach in Banyuwangi Regency to monitor preparations for the preconditions ahead of the new normal.

According to the President, Banyuwangi is one of the areas that seriously improves its tourism sector amid the pandemic in the hope of revising the tourism sector and ensure the safety and security of visitors.

“I see firsthand the preparation for the Banyuwangi preconditions ahead of the new normal in its tourism sector,” the President said.

The Banyuwangi regency government, according to the President, also pays a serious attention to implement the health protocols in its tourism sector.

A number of efforts have been made to implement the health protocols such as the application of technology that can manage the capacity of tourist destinations.

Tourists who will visit a particular destination are required to order tickets via online and the system will automatically stop the process once the destination’s capacity has reached the visiting limit based on the  protocol to keep a safe distance.

The local government has also conducted certification and health protocol competency tests for tour guides by involving health experts.

In addition, tourism sector in Banyuwangi also involves and gives a portion to the local community to take part in supporting the tourism sector. For example, hotels with the same level as a three-star are managed by local residents.

“Hotels such as three stars and below are all managed by the locals. Four-star hotels and so on are managed by investors,” the President said.

“We fully support what the Regent and the Governor have done in preparing the preconditions for the new normal so the locals and tourism sector are ready to reopen their business,” the President said. (BPMI/EN)
