President Jokowi Appreciates Cooperation in Building Green Petrochemical Refinery

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (11/15) hosted ExxonMobil Corporation Chairperson Darren Woods at Four Seasons Hotel, San Francisco, United States (US).

During the meeting, they discussed plan for decarbonization cooperation through the construction of a green petrochemical refinery and carbon capture storage (CCS).

“I appreciate the cooperation plan to build a green petrochemical refinery and carbon capture storage (CCS) with a value of up to US$15 billion,” said the President during the meeting.

The CCS facility is planned to be one of the largest in Southeast Asia, while the green petrochemical refinery one of the most advanced in the world.

“I am pleased to hear that the CCS facility will be the largest in Southeast Asia and ExxonMobil’s petrochemical complex will be one of the most advanced in the world,” he added.

Speaking separately, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi said that at the meeting President Jokowi also invited ExxonMobil Corporation to take part in the development of new and renewable energy and green infrastructure in Indonesia, including in Indonesia’s new capital of Nusantara (IKN).

“Mr. President also invited ExxonMobil to invest in new and renewable energy and also green infrastructure development,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Also joining President Jokowi during the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi, and Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan. (Presidential Secretariat’s Information, Media, Press Bureau/UN(TM/EP)
