President Jokowi Appreciates Four New Type-A Bus Terminals in Java Island
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo appreciated the construction of four new type A bus terminals in Java island that have been completed recently. The four bus terminals are Purworejo Terminal in Purworejo regency, Mendolo Terminal in Wonosobo regency, Purboyo Terminal in Madiun City, and Patria Terminal in Blitar city.
President Jokowi believed that the four bus terminals will support transportation facilities and infrastructure, and improve connectivity between cities, regencies, and provinces. Additionally, the terminals are also expected to grow economy in those areas.
“Previously, a bus terminal is associated with [a place of] thugs. This image has to change because bus terminal provides public service that also supports economic growth. Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises should be involved,” the President said in his remarks during the inauguration of Purworejo Terminal, Purworejo regency, Central Java province, Tuesday (01/02).
Therefore, President Jokowi encourages to build more bus terminals not only in Java island, but also in other Indonesian provinces, so every bus terminal will have the same standards of services and facilities.
According to the Head of State, building the facilities and infrastructure that support mass transportation are not easy. However, he deemed that mass transportation can build connectivity between regions in the future.
“Despite the pros and cons, such as building high speed train, in the future, the cities in Java island will be connected, creating an agglomeration. So, if the mass transportation is not developed, [we] will stuck in traffic jam, and it can happen if we do not develop it. For instance, going out in Jakarta, we are stuck in traffic jams.
Accompanying President Jokowi and First Lady Ibu Iriana during the inauguration were Minister for Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Acting Governor of Central Java province Nana Sudjana, Vice Governor of East Java province Emil Dardak, Regent of Purworejo Yuli Hastuti, Mayor of Madiun Maidi, and Vice Mayor of Blitar Santoso.
