President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (04/17) expressed appreciation for the hard work of the involved ministries/institutions so that Indonesia was granted full membership of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) on Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing in October last year.

“It is not easy to be granted (full membership) since this is related to international recognition of the effective coordination and implementation of our regulations on the ground on anti-money laundering and terrorist financing in our country,” President Jokowi said in his remarks at the 22nd Anniversary of the National Movement for Anti-Money Laundering and Prevention of Terrorism Financing (AML-PTF) at the State Palace, Central Jakarta.

The Head of State also expected that the full membership can provide momentum for the country to affirm its commitment to preventing and eradicating money laundering, thereby increasing the economic credibility and perception of the Indonesian financial system.

“Ultimately, this will encourage countless investments to our country, Indonesia,” he remarked.

For the record, Indonesia became the 40th full member of the FATF at the end of the FATF Plenary Session in Paris, France on October 27, 2023. Furthermore, on Friday (04/05), President Jokowi issued Presidential Decree Number 14 of 2024 on Indonesia’s Membership of the Financial Action Task Force. Indonesia is the last G20 country to become a full member. (TGH/UN) (GWH/RAS/MUR)
