President Jokowi Arrives at Philippines’ Malacañang Palace
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (01/10) arrived at Malacañang Palace, Manila, the Philippines and was welcomed by an official ceremony.
After being greeted by President of the Philippines Marcos Jr., the national anthems of both countries were played. After that, the two leaders carried out an inspection of the honor guard.
Afterwards, President Jokowi and President Marcos Jr. held a tete-a-tete followed by a bilateral meeting. President Jokowi expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from President Marcos Jr. and conveyed the importance of his visit to the Philippines for Indonesia.
“Thank you for the warm welcome. The Philippines is the first country I visited this year to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations and to strengthen cooperation between the two countries,” said President Jokowi.
During this meeting, the two leaders also exchanged memorandums of understanding (MoU) in the energy sector.
“I welcome the signing of the MoU on energy sector cooperation and thank the Philippines for its support for Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship last year,” said President Jokowi.
After delivering a joint press statement, President Jokowi then attended an official luncheon hosted by President Marcos Jr. (BPMI/AIT) (EST/MUR)
