President Jokowi Arrives in Port Moresby

Following his visit to Australia, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (07/05) arrived in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea for a working visit.

The President and his entourage landed at Jacksons International Airport, Port Moresby at around 11:00 a.m. local time using Indonesia-1 Presidential Aircraft.

Upon arrival, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea James Marape welcomed the entourage and introduced several officials of the country, namely Minister of State Events Justin Tkachenko, Governor of the National Capital District Powes Parkop, Chief Secretary to the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council (PM & NEC) Ivan Pomaleu, Secretary General of the Department of Foreign Affairs Elias Wohengu, and Chief of Personnel of the PNG Defence Forces Mark Goina.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Papua New Guinea Andriana Supandy and Defense Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Port Moresby Colonel Inf Piter Dwi Ardianto were also present to welcome President Jokowi.

Afterward, both leaders headed to the stage of honor to the accompaniment of cannon blasts and then listened to the national anthems of both countries. PM Marape also invited President Jokowi to inspect the guard of honor.

After the welcoming ceremony which lasted about 30 minutes, the President then watched the ‘Hiri Motu’ dance before leaving for the next activity. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (FI/MMB)
