President Jokowi Arrives in Washington DC

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (11/13) arrived at Andrews Air Force Base, Washington DC, the United States, onboard flag carrier Garuda Indonesia GA-1 aircraft at 04.20 Western Indonesia Time.

Upon arrival, President Jokowi was welcomed by Acting Chief of Protocol of the United States Ethan Rosenzweigh, United States Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia Sung Kim, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the United States Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, and Defense Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC First Marshal Tjahya Elang Migdiawan.

Afterwards, President Jokowi and his entourage headed to the hotel where they would be staying during the visit.

At the hotel, the President was welcomed by Ad Interim Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Erick Thohir, Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Nadiem Makarim, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) of the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC Ida Bagus Bimantara and his spouse, and Police Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC Brigadier General Oktavianus Marthin and his spouse.

In Washington DC, President Jokowi is scheduled to meet with President of the United States Joe Biden at the White House.

The President deemed the meeting as a valuable occasion to clearly express Indonesia’s firm stance regarding the ongoing situation in Gaza.

“This visit also provides a good opportunity to directly communicate the outcomes of the OIC Summit in Riyadh, reflecting the solidarity of OIC countries in upholding justice and humanity,” the President said in a press statement at Juanda International Airport, Friday (11/10) evening before leaving for Riyadh.
