ASEAN and India should promote maritime cooperation to achieve the maritime security, to boost economic growth as well as to strengthen peace and stability in the region, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.

“ASEAN, including Indonesia, and India have shared common views on maritime cooperation through several efforts, namely strengthening investment and trade, maintaining sustainability of marine resources and improving maritime security,” the President said at the ASEAN-India Informal Breakfast Summit at Suntec Convention Center, Singapore, Thursday (15/11).

According to the President, all these efforts can be realized only if the Indo-Pacific cooperation is strengthened by improving maritime cooperation, connectivity and sustainable development, while putting aside competition. The Indo-Pacific cooperation can also promote the ASEAN-India partnership, he added.

“Maritime cooperation is the main key to the ASEAN-India partnership. A safe sea is our common goal,” the President said, adding that ASEAN-India will continue to achieve greater prosperity and give greater contribution to peace, stability and prosperity in the region. (BPMI / EN)
