President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo shared his statement on a research result on affecting factors of COVID-19 virus’ durability as announced by Department of Homeland Security official of the United States.

“The result said that air temperature, sunlight, and humidity level greatly affect the kill speed of the COVID-19 virus in the air and non-porous surfaces,” President Jokowi said, Friday (24/4).

The higher the temperature, the higher the humidity, and the presence of direct exposure to sunlight, the President added, will further shorten the life span of the COVID-19 virus in the air and on non-porous surfaces.

“This news is very encouraging for us because we live in tropical nature where the temperature is hot, the air is humid, and it is rich in sunlight,” the President said.

However, the President reminded that protocol for preventing transmission of COVID-19 must continue to be carried out in a strongly disciplined manner, such as washing hands, using face mask, keeping distance, and increasing immunity.

For the record, United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which is equivalent to Ministry of Home Affairs, is a federal executive department tasked with protecting the territory of the United States of America against terrorist attacks, intentional accidents, and natural disasters.(UN/EN)
