President Jokowi Asks Regional Government of Yogyakarta to Pay Attention to Services,Tourism, and Creative Industries

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo said that a region’s economic structure has different phases of transformation. Regions with rich natural resources should change their way. They should not only rely on raw material commodities. Instead, they can turn their eyes on processing industry.

In the meantime, regions that do not have abundant natural resources, for example Special Region of Yogyakarta, must focus on developing non natural resources industries, such as services and creative industries.“I believe, in the future, services and creative industries will also be able to make breakthroughs for the regional economy because these sectors rely on technology innovation,” the President said when delivering his introductory remarks at a Limited Meeting on Evaluation of the Implementation of National Strategic Projects and Priority Programs in Yogyakarta Province, at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Thursday (20/4) afternoon.

Therefore, the President asked the Regional Government of Yogyakarta to give more attention to the development of services, tourism, as well as creative industries since they have quite big potential.

“The success of the development of these industries will be our foundation to prepare human resources,” the President said.

Moreover, President Jokowi emphasized on the importance to invest on cultural sector and to strengthen accesibility. Thus, the Government does not only build physical infrastructure but also social as well as cultural infrastructures.

The Limited Meeting was also attended by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut B.
