President Jokowi Attends ASEAN Summit in Bangkok
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Sunday (23/6) attended the plenary session of the 34th ASEAN Summit at the Athenee Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand.
The opening ceremony of the ASEAN Summit was officially led by ASEAN chairman Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
On that occasion, President Jokowi together with other leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states jointly inaugurated the Launch of a Satellite Warehouse in Chainat Province under the Disaster Emergency Logistics System for ASEAN (DELSA), Thailand.
The satellite warehouse will enable ASEAN countries and the ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Center) in Indonesia to distribute disaster emergency logistics to all member countries immediately and more effectively.
In addition, the satellite warehouse in Chainat Province, Thailand which will be connected with regional warehouses in Malaysia and the Philippines will strengthen ASEAN’s collective response to deal with natural disasters under the ASEAN Declaration on “One ASEAN, One Response” which is based on the principle of harnessing individual and collective strengths of different sectors and stakeholders in ASEAN to effectively respond to disasters inside and outside the region.
The inauguration of the DELSA satellite warehouse program is in line with the theme of ASEAN Leadership “Advancing Partnerships for Sustainability”. (DND/DID/ES)
