President Joko “Jokowi’ Widodo considered that a communal fast-breaking among fellow citizens and leaders of state institutions can be used to solve various problems and for silaturahmi (strengthening bonds). “This is good for both strengthening our ukhuwah Islamiyah (Islamic brotherhood) and our ukhuwah Watoniyah (brotherhood of the nation),” President Jokowi told the journalists after attending a communal fast-breaking at the official residence of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Speaker Oesman Sapta Odang, Jakarta, Tusday (6/6) evening.

Furthermore, President Jokowi said that the silaturahmi can also be used to discuss all issues of the nation that can be resolved through deliberation. The President also expressed hope that he may have the opportunity to break the fast with people from all walks of life in the country. “Yes, with all people. We break the fast with the people. I already had a communal fast-breaking with Speakers of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), the House of Representatives (DPR), and now with Speaker of the DPD Pak Oesman,” the President said.

In the event, the Chairman of the Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) K.H. Said Aqil Siradj was among those in attendance and gave tausiah (sermon). While the High Priest of Istiqlal Mosque, Prof. Dr. H. Nasaruddin Umar, M.A acted as imam of the Maghrib (dusk) prayer.

Also attending the event were Speaker of MPR Zulkifli Hasan, Speaker of DPR Setya Novanto, Chairman of the Judicial Commission Aidul Fitriciada Azhari, Chief Justice of Supreme Court Hatta Ali, Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Arief Hidayat, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto, Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly, Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita, the Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI) Commander Gen.
