President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo attended the inauguration of the Central Leadership of Pagar Nusa (the martial arts organization that belongs to Indonesia’s largest Muslim mass organization, Nahdlatul Ulama) for the 2023-2028 term of office, at the Jala Krida Mandala Soccer Field, Indonesian Navy’s Education, Training, and Doctrine Command (Kopdiklat), Surabaya City, East Java Province, Sunday (10/22).

The President expressed hope that Pagar Nusa’s ranks will continue to develop programs that can fortify the Indonesian archipelago and protect it from various threats that may damage the national character and identity.

“I urge all of us to always sharpen and increase our sense of love and pride for our nation by safeguarding our national sovereignty, preserving and developing Indonesia’s rich culture,” said the President.

The President also urged Pagar Nusa’s ranks to care for and reconcile each other and maintain unity between communities in Indonesia. According to him, this is important in order to face rapid world changes.

“We are all brothers and sisters, we all belong to one nation and one country. Therefore, we must always keep our unity strong so that we will be stronger and more resilient in facing the world’s obstacles and challenges which currently change very fast,” said the President.

Additionally, the President also asked Pagar Nusa’s ranks together with the Government and the community to take part in maintaining and ensuring that the simultaneous general elections in 2024 can run well and smoothly. He said that elections are an arena for the contestation of ideas, thoughts and solutions which can serve as capital in making leaps of progress, not to slander each other.

“So please understand, if we find that our common people still slander or bad-mouth each other, it is Pagar Nusa’s job to bring peace and cool things down,” said the President.

“Finally, I would like to wish good luck to Pagar Nusa’s General Chairman, ranks for the 2023-2028 term of office,” added the President. (Presidential Secretariat’s Information, Media, and Press Bureau/AIT) (TM/MUR)
