Indonesian people must become khairu umma; the best and greatest umma who are competitive, progressive, civilized, and respected by other nations, according to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

The President also expressed his optimism that Indonesia can gain glory, honor and blessings from Allah with guidance of the Koran.

“This is in accordance with the verse of Koran saying that Allah will raise the degree of the believers and knowledgeable people,” President Jokowi said in his remarks during the National Commemoration of 1439 H/2018 A.D Nuzulul Quran (the revelation of the Quran) at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday (4/6).

On that occasion, the President also invited Indonesian people to develop science and technology in order to obey the command of Allah and bring prosperity to the world, educate people and achieve the common good.

“We will develop prosperous, peaceful, progressive and harmonious society based on the teachings of Koran,” the President said, adding that Allah commands humankind to develop people, society and nation by continuously developing and strengthening knowledge, science and reading culture, including reading books, reading the nature and reading everyday life.

President Jokowi stressed that the progress of the people, the society and the nation must be developed by obeying religion as a holy doctrine that guides the people to strengthen faith and good morals (akhlakul karimah) and save them from evil and wrongdoing.

The President also invited the people to strengthen their commitment to equality in economy, law, and politics to promote social justice for Indonesian people and to realize a prosperous nation full of God’s blessings (baldatun toyyibatun wa rabbun ghafur).

Also present during the event were First Lady Ibu Iriana Joko Widodo, Vice President Jusuf Kalla and Ibu Mufidah Kalla, Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, leaders of state institutions, and Ambassadors of friendly countries. (MAY/JAY/ES) (RI/EP/Naster)
