President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo called on his cabinet to be wary of the emergence of office, family, and regional election COVID-19 clusters.

“Be careful of office, family, and also regional election clusters, please always be reminded,” President Jokowi stated during his introductory remarks at the Plenary Cabinet Session on Health Management and Economic Recovery for Strengthening Reforms in 2021, at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday (7/9).

Furthermore, the President said that the Government put more focus on public places although private spaces such as with the family are just as dangerous.

“The family cluster, it is because we feel safe as we arrive home, that is why we have to be careful. On the way into the office, we also feel safe so we forget the office health protocols,” the President added.

On the danger of regional election clusters, the President instructed Minister of Home Affairs to act decisively.

“The National Police should also act decisively on this, the election regulation is clear because it is stated clearly in the general election commission regulation. So, Minister of Home Affairs together with the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) should be firmed on its implementation,” the President said.

Previously, on Friday (4/9), Head of the COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery Committee Airlangga Hartarto stated that the COVID-19 handling will be focused on several provinces with the target of reducing the indicator from red to yellow/green before holding the simultaneous regional elections (Pilkada).
