President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, accompanied by First Lady Iriana, on Sunday (26/10) started working visit to the eastern provines of Papua and West Papua.

The President and his entourage began the visit in the city of Sorong in West Papua province.

This the first working visit of the President after his Presidential Inauguration on 20 October 2019. The visit also shows the Government’s commitment in developing Papua and West Papua province both in physical development and human capital development.

President Jokowi is scheduled to visit Sorong City, West Papua provincial capital Manokwari, Arfak Mountains, the city of Kaimana, the city Wamena, and Papua provincial capital Jayapura before heading to Ambon city in Maluku province and Palu city in Central Sulawesi province.

During his visit to Arfak Mountains Regency of West Papua, the President was welcomed with Tumbu Tanah Dance from Arfak Tribe at Snomeba Airport in Irai Village, Anggi District.

President Jokowi also delivered remarks at the Irai Soccer Field before heading to Irai Market to meet market sellers while buying some fruits, such as strawberries and passion fruit.

One of the important agenda in his visit to Papua is to inaugurate Holtekamp bridge in Jayapura City on Monday (28/10). The bridge stretches 732 meters above the waters of Youtefa Bay.

The Holtekamp bridge is expected to boost the people’s economy as it cuts travel time from Jayapura to Muara Tami and the Skouw Cross-border Post (PLBN). (AIT/JAY/EN/ES)
