President Jokowi Begins Working Visit to China

In a bid to honor the invitation of President of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Xi Jinping as well as to commemorate ten years of comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and First Lady Ibu Iriana Jokowi departed to PRC from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Thursday (07/27).

“This morning, the First Lady and I as well as a limited delegation will conduct a working visit to Chengdu in PRC. My visit to Chengdu is to fulfill the invitation of President Xi Jinping. And, this visit also coincides with ten years of comprehensive strategic partnership between Indonesia and China,” the President said in a press statement before the departure.

President Jokowi will discuss a number of priority agendas in various fields during the meeting with President Xi Jinping. He said that China is the largest trade and investment partner for Indonesia.

“I will discuss a number of priority agendas with President Xi, whether in the field of investment or various strategic projects of Indonesia and China, along with the fields of trade and health, as well as regional and global issues,” he said.

President Jokowi is also slated to meet with Chinese entrepreneurs to discuss, among others, investment potential in Indonesia.

“I will also meet with several CEOs, leaders of Chinese companies that have and will be investing in Indonesia, especially in the downstream industry, petrochemical, renewable energy, and health sectors,” the President said.

In addition, the President will also take the time to cheer on Indonesian students who are competing in the international sports event FISU World University Games.

“I will also attend the opening of the FISU World University Games to encourage our contingent who are competing there,” he said.

The President and the First Lady are scheduled to arrive home on Saturday (07/29).

“On Saturday morning, God willing, I will arrive in Jakarta,” he said. (DND/UN) (FI/MMB)
