President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo called on his cabinet to collaborate in supporting the Central Government’s programs to fulfill people’s needs in the food sector.

“The President always emphasizes cooperation on the ground and programs that are well planned, including the food estate issue,” said Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo in a press statement after a virtual limited meeting, Wednesday (23/9).

According to him, the Government has prepared the available lands in Central Kalimantan Province for food estate development.

“An area of 30,000 hectares have been prepared and will start planting by next month,” Limpo said.

He further explained that there will be various food commodities in the food estate, such as rice, cassava, vegetables, fruits, plantations as well as livestock. The end products, he continued, will be ready to be sold to the market with export quality.

Furthermore, the Minister expressed hope that the President will attend the launching of the project in the first week of October to see all the equipment and technology that will be used in the food estate.

He added that this project will be a pilot project for food estate in other provinces, thus collaboration with other ministries and institutions is pivotal to make it work. (FID/EN)
