President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has requested the members of Indonesian Scout Movement (Pramuka) to be the pioneers in carrying out health protocols in the midst of a pandemic.

This was conveyed by the President when giving a message virtually at the Commemoration Ceremony of the 60th Scout Day 2021, Saturday (14/8/2021) morning,  from the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java.

“Indonesian Scouts must be the pioneers of discipline, especially discipline in carrying out health protocols: discipline to wear masks, discipline to maintain distance, discipline to wash hands at all times, and discipline to avoid crowds,” said the President during the virtual Commemoration Ceremony of the 60th Scout Day 2021, Saturday (14/8/),  from the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java Province.

The President added that scout members must also stand at the forefront in protecting themselves, friends and loved ones.

“Do remind your friends who don’t comply with health protocols by giving them explanations. If there are friends over the age of 12 who have not been vaccinated, ask them to get vaccinated immediately because the main key to getting out of this pandemic is discipline in following health protocols and accelerating vaccinations to achieve herd immunity,” he said.

On that occasion, the President also expressed gratitude to all scout members throughout the country who implemented the Dwi Darma, Tri Satya, and Dasa Darma during this pandemic and who are working together with all elements of the nation to help deal with the pandemic in their respective environments.

“Those are the true spirit of scouts contained in the Dwi Darma, Tri Satya, and Dasa Darma, namely willingness to sacrifice to help others regardless of ethnicity, religion, and class,” he said.

Scout Day 2021 and Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Scout Movement carry the theme “Scouts continuous service in entering new habits with national discipline and concern”.

This is the second commemoration  held in the midst of a pandemic situation. Therefore, the event took place virtually with a limited number of participants and strict health protocols.

“Indonesian Scouts must be a role model, be strong in facing every challenge, raise concern for others, be willing to sacrifice, love to help, help ease the burden of our families, relatives and neighbors,” said the President.

In addition, President Jokowi also advised the scout members to study hard and master science and technology.

“Master science and technology as highly as possible, always adaptive to pursue technological progress, keep up with the current trend, be flexible, and be smart,” he said.

Closing his remarks, the President asked all Indonesian Scout members to always be optimistic in looking at the future of Indonesia.

“Never forget the national identity, build a strong national character, practice the true values of Pancasila, protect the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia and also take care of our diversity. Indonesian Scouts must always be optimistic about the future and continue to build hope for the glory of Indonesia,” he said. (FID/UN) (EST/LW)
