President Jokowi Calls for Global Solidarity at G20 Summit
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Saturday (09/09) attended the second session of the G20 Summit at Bharat Mandapam, IECC, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India.
“I agree that the world is like one big family. The family that Indonesia hopes for is a family with members that support each other, care for each other, and have one common goal, namely creating a peaceful and prosperous life,” the President said.
The President also said that there are several aspects to achieve the goal, including creating global stability and stopping war.
“We must stop war, obey the international law, and work together to achieve inclusiveness,” the President said.
The President also emphasized that Indonesia continues to encourage ASEAN to become an anchor of regional stability in the Indo-Pacific.
“As Chairman of ASEAN, Indonesia continues to encourage ASEAN to become an anchor of regional stability that has a habit of dialogue and a habit of cooperation in the Indo-Pacific,” the President stated.
The President went on to say that global categorization, with the impression of compartmentalizing, must end immediately.
“We need to end the dichotomy that divides us, including dichotomy of north and south, developed and developing, or east and west,” the President stated.
The President further said that cooperation and dialogue must be open to all parties and the rights of all countries must not be ignored, including the rights of developing countries.
“Indonesia will continue to voice the aspirations and interest of the Global South, and encourage broader regional representation. For this reason, I welcome the participation of the African Union in the G20,” the President said.
The President also said that global solidarity on health issues must also continue to be strengthened, one of which is through mobilizing a pandemic fund.
“Through the mobilization of the pandemic fund, we need to realize a commitment of US$ 2 billion,” the President said.
President Jokowi further said that equality could also help creating a peaceful and prosperous world. One way to achieve this is through justice in global reforms and transparency, including in the international tax system, and the fulfillment of development rights for all, including right for developing countries in carrying out industrial downstreaming.
“The G20 must support the participation of developing countries in global supply chains and encourage an equal and inclusive cooperation ecosystem,” the President remarked. (BPMI SETPRES/AIT) (RI/MMB)
