President Jokowi Calls for Immediate Rehabilitation of Tsunami-Affected Houses

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo called for immediate reconstruction and rehabilitation of houses affected by Tsunami in Pandeglang, Banten.

Therefore, the President has instructed Head of National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) to address this matter as soon as possible.

“Rehabilitation process to approximately 800 houses has not completed yet,” President Jokowi said in an event called Increasing People’s Alertness through the Emergency Response Unit Forum (Tagana) in Education and Emergency Response Village in Tanjung Lesung, Pandeglang, Banten, on Monday (18/2).

According to the President, the Government is gradually rehabilitating quake-affected houses in West Nusa Tenggara province, Palu (Central Sulawesi), and Banten province.

“Regents, Governors, and Head of the BNPB have decided to provide cash assistance to rehabilitate 800 houses here, so they can start the reconstruction immediately and I have agreed on that decision,” President Jokowi added.

Also on that occasion, the Head of State also expressed appreciation to disaster management training which has just begun.  “During the practice, I notice that children learned faster and was able to copy the training,” President Jokowi said, adding that disaster management training will be conducted in all regions, particularly in disaster-prone areas.

President Jokowi also conveyed information from Head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stating that tsunami monitoring radar is already installed in Serang and will be installed in two other locations by March. (DND/OJI/ES)
