President Joko Widodo gives directive during online cabinet meeting, Monday (16/3).

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has called on the people to join hands and educate the public on corona virus pandemic.

“Let us educate the public related to covid-19,” the President said while giving direction during online Cabinet Meeting, Monday (16/3).

According to the President, the current situation is different and unusual since the country is facing both economic slowdown and the virus pandemic; thus the public should be provided with accurate information.

For that reason, President Jokowi has instructed Minister of Home Affairs to urge regional leaders, including governors, regents, and mayors across Indonesia to exercise prudence in making decisions so as to become well-targeted and will not cause panic.

“Do urge the public to minimize movement, meetings, and practice social distancing to stem the virus spread,” the President said.

President Jokowi also instructed Minister of Education and Culture to carefully weigh the decision to close schools.

“We should consider that every region has its own specialty related to education,” the President said, adding that the Government should also ensure the availability of online curriculum so that the students can study at home. (UN/EN)
