President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (08/22) reminded Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) to pay serious attention to “land mafia” eradication.

“If you encounter land mafias, please take them to the law enforcement officer immediately since it makes people difficult to register their land certificates,” President Jokowi said in his remarks at the Distribution of Land Certificates at Gelora Delta, Sidoarjo regency.

According to the President, there are about seven million plots of land that do not have land certificates in East Java province alone and he ordered Ministry of ATR/BPN to speed up the process of land certificates issuance.

In the meantime, President Jokowi also reminded the public to properly keep land certificates because land conflicts and disputes in this country occur because the community does not hold legal rights to the land.

“This is evidence of legal rights to a plot of land,” he added.

On the occasion, the President also reminisced that back then in 2016, he began to target the Ministry to issue more land certificates than usual.

“At that time, I asked for 5 million land certificates to be issued in a year. This is a “trial-and-error” approach; can we issue 5 million? It turned out we can achieve it. I raised the number to 7 million, it turned out we also can achieve that, I raised the number to 9 million and it was also possible. It means, if we want it, we can actually do it,” President Jokowi remarked. (BPMI SETPRES/UN) (GWH/MUR)
