President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered measures to intensify the implementation of Micro-Scale Activity Restrictions (PPKM Mikro) and to speed up COVID-19 vaccination.

“The President has ordered the Central Government, regional governments, the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to join hands in handling COVID-19,” Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin said after attending a Limited Cabinet Meeting on COVID-19 Handling, Monday (21/06).

Regarding the strengthening of Micro-Scale Restrictions, the President, he added, underscored the importance of reducing people mobility, observing health protocols, and strengthening testing, tracing, and treatment measures.

Budi also pointed out that the Government would improve health-quarantine measures, including self-isolation and centralized isolation, adding that patients with specific symptoms (saturation below 95 percent, shortness of breath) and have comorbidities will be referred to hospitals for further treatment.

Ministry of Health, he added, also joins hands with regional governments, the TNI and the National Police to speed up the vaccination program. According to him, the daily vaccination rate has reached more than 700,000 doses this month, in line with the target set by the President.

In response to the report, the President had ordered measures to intensify vaccination program until the target of one million doses per day can be achieved in July, the Minister stated.

The Minister further said that cooperation between all stakeholders and communities in handling the pandemic, in terms of strengthening Micro-Scale Restrictions and accelerating vaccination, will overcome the surge in COVID-19 cases. (TGH/UN) (RI/EP)
