President Jokowi Calls for More Active Role from National Police in COVID-19 Handling

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo called on the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to continue to play a more active role in supporting the Government’s efforts to handle COVID-19 pandemic.

“I order the National Police personnel to continue to play a more active role in supporting the Government’s policies in handling COVID-19 pandemic,” the President said in his remarks in the Commemoration Ceremony of the 75thAnniversary of the National Police (Bahayangkara) Day, held online on Thursday (1/7), from the State Palace, Jakarta.

He also expressed his appreciation for their hard work and cooperation with other related sides in supporting the COVID-19 handling.

“I am aware that the Police personnel do not only perform their duties, but also have cooperated with the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI), doctors, medical staff, ministries and institutions, regional governments particularly the health units, volunteers, and other supporting personnel to handle the pandemic,” he stated.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also extended his best wishes for the anniversary of the Polri and expressed his highest appreciation to the personnel. (FID/UN) (RAS/MUR)
