President Jokowi Calls for More Extensive Measures to Slow Down Covid-19 Spread

The Government has announced that the campaigns to slow down the spread of covid-19 pandemic in the country become a priority.

The campaigns are among others by urging the people to reduce mobility, to practice social distancing, and to avoid crowds that pose risks of spreading the corona virus.

“We continue to disseminate the campaigns,” the President said in his introduction in a limited meeting through video conference on the Covid-19 Task Force Team Report at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (19/3).

According to the President, the Government will continue the call to study at home, to work from home, and to worship at home. “For those who work outside and at offices, they must keep the distance between one and another,” he said.

The Head of State also noted that doing things at home should not be seen as an opportunity for vacation.

“I’ve learned that last Saturday and Sunday, Pandeglang’s Carita beach in Banten province is packed with the crowd. This poses a greater risk to spread the covid-19 virus,” he said.

On that occasion, the President also urged the people to keep distance when they are in public areas, including in public transportation, airports, ports, train stations, and bus stations.

He also called on the Task Force to join hands with religious institutions, religious leaders to prevent the potential spread of covid-19 virus in religious events.

“We must evaluate the hosting of religious events that involve a large number of people,” the President said. (FID/EN)
