President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and his running mate Ma’ruf Amin have once again called on Indonesian people to stay united after they were declared president-elect and vice president-elect by the General Elections Commission (KPU).

“We must stay united in Indonesia, (upholding) the Pancasila (state ideology) that unites all of us,” President Jokowi said at the KPU office, Jakarta, Sunday (30/6).

Pak Ma’ruf Amin and I thank the Indonesian people for trusting us for this historic duty to do the people’s work and take all the people to an advanced and dignified Indonesia that is equal to other countries,” he added.

The President also called on Indonesians to put aside political conflicts in the last 10 months and to come together to continue building the nation. “Neighbors should start greeting each other. Friends should start talking to each other because we are all brothers and sisters of the same nation,” he said.

President Jokowi also once again invited his opponents Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno to join hands to build Indonesia, calling them patriots who shared his vision of a more advanced and prosperous Indonesia.

“I am sure that both of them are patriots who are committed to a stronger, more advanced, more just and more prosperous Indonesia,” he said, adding that he and Ma’ruf Amin will dedicate themselves to achieving the ideals of the founders of the nation.

The President went on to say that Indonesia is a big country, which cannot be built by one person or a group of people.

“We will do our utmost to continue the foundation that has been built by me and Bapak Jusuf Kalla in the first period of the administration,” he said. (RSF/DNA/ES)
