President Jokowi Calls on BRICS Country Members to Fight for Equal, Inclusive Cooperation
All developing countries must unite and fight for their rights in advancing their own nations.
The statement was made Thursday (08/24) by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo during the 15th BRICS Summit’s BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue session held at Sandton Convention Center in Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa.
According to the President, all forms of discrimination against the development efforts of developing countries must be eliminated, while equal and inclusive cooperation must continue to be promoted.
“We must reject trade discrimination. Industrial downstreaming should not be obstructed. We all must keep fighting for equal and inclusive cooperation,” he said.
President Jokowi also acknowledged that a widening economic development gap between developing countries and others causes people’s suffering, adding that the current global economic order is unfair.
“Such a situation cannot be allowed to persist,” the President added.
To that end, President Jokowi said that BRICS member countries can play a significant role in fighting for development justice for all nations worldwide.
“BRICS can serve as “the forefront” to fight for development justice and fairer world governance reformation,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (AP/EP)
