President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo called on all Indonesian women to keep reviving national heroine Raden Ajeng Kartini’s spirit (popularly known as Ibu Kartini), a Javanese feminist and women’s rights activist.

“To all Indonesian women and mothers of the nation, let’s continue to revive the fighting spirit of Ibu Kartini,” President Jokowi tweeted in his twitter account @jokowi and facebook fanpage to commemorate Kartini Day on Sunday (21/4).

According to the President, the spirit referred to the fighting spirit in raising family, and in building the community, the nation, as well as the country’s next generation.

He also put Kartini’s well-known motto “Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang” (From Darkness to Light) in the caption. (ES)
