President Jokowi Calls on Labor to Commemorate May Day Peacefully

A day before May Day, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo visited PT KMK Global Sports shoe factory in Tangerang, Banten. On that occasion, President Jokowi had lunch with the company workers.

“Yes, we had lunch (with the workers). (The menu) were tempeh, eggs, and vegetables. I think (the food) is nutritious,” President Jokowi told the journalists after the visit.

The President added that some of the workers have been working for the company for 15 years, 20 years, or 23 years.

“I think PT KMK provides a good working environment for the employees. The company has a clinic, it is very good,” the President said, adding that the company also provides good salary for the workers.

The President explained that rescaling and upscaling are important in increasing productivity and enabling company to produce more and pay higher salary.

“The higher salary will not be a problem if the productivity is high,” President Jokowi said.

On that occasion, the President expressed his hope that the May Day Commemoration will run smoothly and in a peaceful manner.

Also present during the event were, among others, Minister of Manpower Hanif Dhakiri, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, and Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto. (BPMI/FID/ES)
