President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has urged regional governments to continue intensifying COVID-19 vaccination drive in order to immediately achieve herd immunity.

“The Government has to pursue the target for July of one million inoculations per day and later in August of two million per day. All regencies must give support by vaccinating as many people as possible so that we can exceed the target,” the President said during mass vaccination to 1,400 general public and MSMEs actors in nine regencies and cities in Southeast Sulawesi province via video conference, Wednesday (30/6).

He then emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Central Government, regional governments, the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) to speed up vaccination drive so that it can meet the target.

“Do speed up the vaccination drive to immediately achieve herd immunity. Cooperation between the regional police and the regional military command is needed,” he said.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also reminded the public to always follow health protocols, including those who had been vaccinated. “Wearing face masks at all times,” the President said. (FID / UN) (EST / MUR)
