President Jokowi Calls Out All Parties to Maintain Peace Ahead of General Elections
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has invited all parties to strengthen ties, look after each other, and reminded them to keep the situation peaceful and harmonious and ensure all citizens are happy ahead of the 2024 General Elections
He made the statement at the 78th Anniversary of Muslimat Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) that was held at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, Saturday (01/20).
“Let us strengthen our friendship, strengthen our ties to look after each other, remind each other so that the situation remains calm, harmonious and we all remain peaceful,” said the President.
The President also reminded the public, including NU Muslim women, not to be pitted against each other because of differences of opinion and choices ahead of the upcoming elections. According to him, the election process is important and decisive, but he does not want differences in choices to cause divisions between communities.
“You shouldn’t insult each other, bad-mouth each other, neighbors won’t greet each other. We shouldn’t do that. Not greeting each other and fight among friends are something we shouldn’t do,” said the President.
“We shouldn’t get pitted against each other like that, we shouldn’t be divided like that, okay? Because what is more important is the national integrity, national unity, national harmony,” he added.
On that occasion, the President also wished a happy 78th anniversary to the entire NU family. He expressed hope that the NU Muslims will always be united and harmonious for the sake of the interest of the people, nation and state of Indonesia.
“On behalf of the people of the nation and state, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the NU Muslims who always protect the Republic of Indonesia, care for Pancasila, care for the unity of harmony for a developed Indonesia. NU Muslims are truly extraordinary,” said the President.
The President also appreciated the contribution of NU Muslims so that the Government can overcome various global and domestic challenges. The President also said that the Government will continue to strive to maintain people’s purchasing power and welfare through various subsidies and social assistance.
“We must continue to maintain this momentum, we must continue to improve it to achieve our dream of golden Indonesia in 2045,” said the President. (BPMI/AIT) (EST/MMB)
