With the 42nd ASEAN Summit just around the corner, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is set to oversee the preparation of summit, which is held on May 10-11, 2023 at Meruorah Hotel in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai regency, East Nusa Tenggara province.

The President and his entourage arrived at Labuan Bajo’s Komodo International Airport on Sunday (05/07) at 15:30 Central Indonesian time.

“We are only two days away. Everything is ready. God willing, everything is ready. The last time we checked the preparation was after the Eid holiday. Everything is ready. Now it is time for the execution,” he told journalists after the simulation of the welcoming ceremony.

According to the President, the Government’s focus now is on the organization of the ASEAN Summit, adding that the people of Labuan Bajo are actively involved in organizing the summit.

“Everyone is involved in the welcoming ceremony, in preparing the food, the accommodation, and the hotels,” he said, adding that the summit is a golden opportunity to promote the region’s tourism destinations.

“The ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo is an excellent opportunity to promote Labuan Bajo so the world knows that Indonesia has Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara province,” he remarked.

The ASEAN Summit is a biannual meeting held by members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) discussing economic, political, security, and socio-cultural development of Southeast Asian countries.

This week’s ASEAN Summit is the first of the two to be held in Indonesia this year, with the second one scheduled to be held later this year. More than 700 delegates have confirmed their attendance at this week’s summit. (FID/UN) (DH/EP)
