President Jokowi Commends Selection Process of U-17 National Team
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo commended the selection process of the U-17 National Football Team (Timnas) carried out by the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI).
This national team will compete in the U-17 World Cup to be held in the country.
“I think I have to give appreciation to PSSI for this kind of process which provides opportunities for our youths to take part in the U-17 World Cup,” the President said after an inspection at Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung regency, West Java province, Wednesday (07/12).
This selection will be carried out not only in Bandung regency, but also in nine other cities, the President said.
“Earlier on, I asked Coach Bima Sakti about the number of players participating, today 187 players will go through the selection process. If all of them are good, 187 will be recruited, [or only] one, two, or three players,” he said.
On that occasion, the President also expressed appreciation for the changes in PSSI, under the leadership of Chairperson Erick Thohir.
“I think the management of PSSI under Mr. Erick Thohir has completely changed, so I want to see it,” he said. (TGH/UN) (FI/LW)
