President Jokowi Condemns President Macron’s Statement on Islam

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said that Indonesia condemns the violence in Paris and Nice. Indonesia also condemns French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement which insults Islam and is offensive to Muslims around the globe.

“Indonesia condemns the violence in Paris and Nice which has claimed lives. Indonesia also condemns the French President’s statement which insults Islam and is offensive to Muslims around the world. The statement can spark division among the world’s religious believers, at a time when the world needs unity to face COVID-19 pandemic,” the President said after a meeting with leaders of religious organizations in Indonesia on Saturday (31/10) at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

The President said that freedom of expression should respect the honor, sanctity and sacredness of religious values ​​and symbols.

“Associating religion with acts of terrorism is a big mistake. Terrorism is terrorism, terrorists are terrorists. Terrorism has nothing to do with any religion,” the President stated.

On that occasion, the President also invited the world to strengthen religious unity and tolerance to build a better world. (SLN/UN)
