President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo expressed optimism that the construction of the Presidential Palace in the Central Government Core Area (KIPP) of the Nusantara Capital will be completed in 2024.

He has set a target to hold the 79th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence on August 17, 2024 in the area after the construction process is complete.

“This is the location of the Presidential Palace, which I am optimistic that next year in August, the independence day ceremony will be held here,” the President said in a press statement, at Observation Tower, Nusantara Capital, North Penajam Paser regency, East Kalimantan province, Thursday (02/23).

Furthermore, the President obtained some information from the project contractor related to the construction progress.

“After I spoke to the contractor of the project, seeing from the current development, I am optimistic it will be finished,” he added.

The President also emphasized that the construction of the Presidential Palace will be in accordance with the designs. However, there may be several parts that must adjust to conditions in the field.

“This is a nation-made masterpiece, starting from the design, the development, all by our own,” he said.

The President also ensured that the Presidential Palace will be occupied immediately once the construction is complete so that it can encourage the development of surrounding areas.

“It will surely be occupied, so do other ministerial buildings although not all staff are here yet. If the buildings are occupied, there would be a crowd. If there is a crowd, it means we need more facilities such as restaurants, schools from kindergarten, elementary school, junior high school, high school, university, hospitals, clinics, entertainment, malls, and so on,” he explained.

President Jokowi said that the new capital will offer a different atmosphere, so that it will attract a lot of local and foreign investors to invest in the area.

“We offer a different atmosphere here. This core area is the government area. Beyond that, people will see a different atmosphere. That’s what we sell (to the investors). Experience, ambience, we sell all that,” he said. (TGH/AIT/SND) (EST/MMB)
