President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo congratulated Donald Trump following his inauguration as the 45th President of the United States.

The inauguration ceremony took place at Capitol Hill, Washington DC, the US, on Friday (20/1) local time. “I would like to congratulate President Donald Trump on his inauguration,” President Jokowi said after taking part in the Bogor Open Archery Championship 2017 held on Wira Yudha field, Center of Education of Zeni Kodiklat of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) in Bogor, West Java, Sunday (22/01).

President Jokowi added that he also noted the emphasis on mutual benefits in Trump’s inauguration address. Therefore, the President expressed his optimism that relations between Indonesia and the US would be better. “I am optimistic that relations between Indonesia and the United States will be better on condition that they have to benefit both sides, both countries,” the President said.

President Jokowi also said that when he phoned Donald Trump, the US President also expressed the same belief that relations between the two countries would be better because he has many friends in Indonesia. “When I talked to him on the phone, he said Indonesia-US relations would definitely be better because President Trump told me he has many friends in Indonesia,” the President said, quoting President Trump. (GUN/ES) (EP/YM/Naster)
