President Jokowi Congratulates Rahmat on Winning Bronze Medal at Tokyo Olympics

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo congratulated Indonesian weightlifter Rahmat Erwin Abdullah for winning the bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Competing in the men’s 73 kilograms category at the Tokyo International Forum, Japan, Wednesday (28/7), Rahmat managed to record a total lift of 342 kilograms (152 kilograms in snatch lift, 190 kilograms in clean and jerk).

“Another medal for Indonesia from the Tokyo Olympics. A young weightlifter Rahmat Erwin Abdullah has won the bronze medal in the men’s 73 kilograms class in tonight’s match. Congratulations, Rahmat,” President Jokowi wrote through his personal Twitter account @Jokowi.

For the record, Shi Zhiyong from China won the gold medal with a total lift of 364 kilograms (166 kilograms in snatch and 198 kilograms in clean and jerk), while Julio Ruben Mayora Pernia from Venezuela won the silver medal with a total lift of 346 kilograms (156 kilograms in snatch and 190 kilograms in clean and jerk).

Rahmat managed to win the third medal in the weightlifting competition for the Indonesian contingent at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Previously, Windy Cantika also managed to win the bronze medal in the women’s 49 kilogram class while Eko Yuli Irawan won the silver medal in the men’s 61 kilogram class. (UN) (RIF/EP)
