President Jokowi Demands Acceleration of Booster Vaccination for People and Hajj Pilgrims

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo demands his ministers and officials to accelerate COVID-19 vaccination or booster vaccination for the people. Therefore, the Government will require booster vaccination in a number of public activities.

President Jokowi gave the directive in the Limited Cabinet Meeting on the Evaluation of Public Activity Restrictions (PPKM), on Monday (07/18) at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

“Bapak President has given directive to accelerate booster vaccination. We will require booster vaccination in a number of public activities which is aimed to protect the people, and prevent them from getting hospitalized or death,” Minister of Health said in his press statement after the Limited Cabinet Meeting.

Besides for the public, President Jokowi also encouraged booster vaccination for the hajj pilgrims who have just arrived from Saudi Arabia.

 “Bapak President gave directive that all hajj pilgrims who have just arrived and have not got booster vaccination to get the third vaccination before their families pick them up,” he said.

Minister of Health said that booster vaccination is proved to be effective in providing extra protection for the people from getting hospitalized or being dead.

“The percentage of the cases shows that the COVID-19 patients who passed away were mostly had not been vaccinated or only got first vaccination. Meanwhile, those who had got the second vaccination and then passed away were only in a very small percentage of the cases. Those who got booster vaccination and then passed away has been significantly decreasing,” he stated. (TGH/UN)(AW/LW)
