President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo said that in all over Indonesia, only 46 million out of 126 million plots of land that have been certificated. There are still quite many plots of land which have not been certificated. In many regencies, land disputes still happen due to the issue of land certificate.

Therefore, the President has ordered Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/Head of National Land Agency to finish the certification process and distribute the certificates to the people.

“The target is usually 400 to 500,000 every year. This year, the target is ten times bigger. 5 million certificates must be handed over to the people. Next year, the target is 7 million. For the year 2019, 9 million certificates must be handed over,” the President said when handing over 3,500 land certificates in Systemic Complete Land Registration (PTSL), at Badung Regency Government Square, Bali, Friday (8/9) afternoon.

The President added those who already have land certificates are safe because no one can take over the land ownership. Thus, the owner of the land must know the size of the land, the location, etc,” the President said. The certificate must be kept in a plastic sheet so it will not damage. The holders of land certificates must also make a copy of the certificate so when the original document is missing, it will be easy to process the replacement document.  The President also reminded to well calculate before using the certificate as a collateral for bank loan.

“It’s ok to use it as a collateral to borrow money from the bank. You can get 200 million, for example, to open a business. The profits can be used to buy a motorcycle or a car. Use the profits not the loan from the bank. Please be careful,” the President added.

On that occasion, the President also told the Regional Offices of National Land Agency (BPN) as well as offices of BPN in regencies and cities to give fast services to the people to process their certificates.“To issue the certificates as soon as possible. I have ordered the Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning to add more juru ukur (land measurement officers). It was only 2,000 people, now it is 4,500 people. So, the measurement process can be done faster,” the President firmly said.

Also attending the event were First Lady Ibu Iriana Joko Widodo, Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/ Head of National Land Agency Sofyan Djalil and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung. (MIT/GUN/ES)(MMB/YM/Naster)
