President Jokowi Distributes Social Forestry Decree in Cianjur
President Joko Jokowi Widodo, accompanied by First Lady Ibu Iriana, on Friday (8/2) distributed Social Forestry Management Decree of 13,900 hectares of land to 8,900 family heads. The distribution took place at Haurwangi Pokland Tourism Center, Haurwangi District, Cianjur Regency, West Java.
In his remarks, the President stated that the Government gives freedom to the people to manage and choose plants to be planted in the forest for the next 35 years.
According to the President, the distribution of decrees on social forestry management has been carried out by the Government throughout the country. In 2 years, it has covered 2.53 million hectares, the President said, adding that the target is 12.7 million hectares.
The Government, the President continued, also gives priority to the people to manage social forestry.
President Jokowi reminded the rights holders of social forestry management who have the rights to manage large areas of land that the Government will take over their rights if the forests are not productive or not being well used and their land will be given to the people. On this occasion, he also had an opportunity to have a dialog with farmers representatives asking about their farming and production.
Also attending the occasion are Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Rini Soemarno, Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Coordinator of Special Staff to the President Teten Masduki, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, and Acting Regent of Cianjur Herman Suherman.
