Indonesia’s ethnicity and cultural diversity will become a force to develop Indonesia’s creative industries if managed properly, according to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“We have great potentials because we know Indonesia has 714 ethnicities with different customs and traditions. It is of paramount importance,” the President said to reporters after attending the We The Fest 2018 music festival at JIEXPO Kemayoran, Jakarta, Sunday (7/22).

On that occasion, the President expressed his supports for the efforts made by the musicians to arrange Indonesia’s ethnic songs with the current musical composition. The President also praised a performance of one of Indonesian pop bands from Jakarta, White Shoes & the Couples Company.

We The Fest is dubbed as one of Indonesia’s largest music festivals. The event takes place at JIEXpo complex in Kemayoran in Central Jakarta for three days from July 20 to 22. Both local and international musicians take part in the festival.

Before visiting the event, the President also visited an automotive exhibition themed ‘Tumplek Blek 2018 Automotive Exhibition’, the largest and most comprehensive automotive exhibition in Southeast Asia. (Bureau of Press, Media and Information/EN) (MUR/EP/YM/Naster).
