As investment is one of the key drivers that boost economic growth amid the current global crises, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered all related parties not to complicate investment in Indonesia.

“Once again, all countries fight over investors. Therefore, none of us should make it complicated. I refuse to hear that some people complicate [investment process]. The Central Government, regional governments, provincial governments, regency governments, and city governments must not disturb the process,” the President said while opening the 2022 National Coordination Meeting on Investment at the Ritz-Carlton in Jakarta, Wednesday (11/30).

Indonesia still receives investments despite the global financial crisis. Thus, the President reminded his administration to take caution in establishing policies that may impact investors’ trust in the country.

“We have earned their trust. We have earned it. Now, the implementation of the policies we have established must not diminish the trust that we have earned. We must not lose it due to mistreatment, because we mistreat the fund invested in our country as the competition in gaining investment is tough,” he said.

The Head of State further stated that the Government continues to observe and study the trend of investment to formulate the right policies on investment in the country.

“We study it through our economic intelligence. Why do investors invest more money in other countries and not here? We learned that they have additional policies, additional incentives, tax holidays. Investors are given better treatments. We learn everything,” he said.

On that occasion, the President also ordered that the Online Single Submission (OSS) system that has been built continue to be enhanced to speed up and simplify investment licensing.

“Do pay extra attention to the OSS platform at all levels, including the regency, city, province, and central levels. Improve it so that the process is fast. If we say five minutes, it should be five minutes. If we say one hour, it should be one hour. Do not say one hour when in fact it can take six months. We will not be trusted. Please do improve it. There are still many to be improved on the platform,” he remarked.

For the record, the 2022 National Coordination Meeting on Investment adopting the theme “Downstreaming and Partnership for Just Investment” was carried out in a hybrid manner and participated by around 2,000 people. (TGH/UN) (DH/MUR)
