President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo called on Indonesian citizens to cast their vote in the upcoming legislative and Presidential elections to be held on 17 April this year.

“You should go to polling stations and cast your vote,” the President said in his remarks during the 2019 National Chinese New Year Celebration in Jakarta, Thursday (7/2).

President Jokowi added that the election will determine the future of Indonesia and a higher voter turnout will give a positive impact for the nation. He went on to say that the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) would maintain security during the election.

“Don’t be afraid. The Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) will maintain security and guard the nation’s sovereignty. I hope all voters come to polling stations and cast their votes,” President Jokowi said.

The President also expressed hope that this year will bring progress and prosperity for the nation. (RSF/OJI/ES)
