President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo emphasized the urgency of law reform in Indonesia. President Jokowi’s statement came after Supreme Court Justice Sudrajad Dimyati was named as a suspect in an alleged bribery case for a civil case at the Supreme Court.

President Jokowi said that he has ordered Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD to handle it.

“Indeed, I see a very important urgency to reform our law sector, and I have ordered Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs to handle it,” President Jokowi said in his press statement, on Monday afternoon (09/26), after the ceremony of sending off humanitarian assistance for flood victims in Pakistan held at Indonesian Defense Forces’ Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base.

President Jokowi also called on all elements to be patient and oversee the law process at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

“Most importantly, we wait until the law process at KPK is completed,” he stated.

President Jokowi also responded similarly to the alleged corruption case of Governor of Papua Lukas Enembe. The President said that all people are equal before the law.

“I think all elements should respect the law process at KPK. All people are equal before the law. I have also said that all must respect the summon of KPK, respect the law process at KPK,” the President asserted. (TGH/UN)(AW/MUR)
