Indonesia still needs many entrepreneurs to develop national economy, according to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

Therefore, the Government continues to encourage entrepreneurs, especially young entrepreneurs, to grow and develop, the President added.

“The number of our entrepreneurs should increase every year. Percentage of entrepreneurs in almost all developed countries is above 14 percent, while our country’s is still at 3.01 percent, ” said President Jokowi after receiving the Central and Regional Executives of  the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (5/4).

On that occasion, President Jokowi also appreciates the concern shown by HIPMI by involving a number of parties to enter the business world and by visiting schools, colleges, and even Islamic boarding schools (pesantren).

“There are programs called ‘HIPMI Goes to School’, ‘HIPMI Goes to Campus’, and soon there will be ‘HIPMI Goes to Islamic Boarding School’. I think this will give a boost for our young people to have interest in entrepreneurship, ” the President said.

In the meantime, members of HIPMI also conveyed the obstacles they meet on the ground, particularly in the regions.

Chairman of Central Executive of the HIPMI also expressed their eagerness to be more involved more in the Government’s national development.

“HIPMI members have just conveyed problems they face in the regions. There are big projects in the regions but local entrepreneurs are not involved. This is what I want to discuss with related Ministries: Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, Ministry of Public Works and Housing, as well as Ministry of Transportation. We need to increase money circulation in the regions so that the national development can really bring benefits for all, “said President Jokowi.

President Jokowi also said that the Government will find out the causes of minimum involvement of entrepreneurs in the regions in national development. However, the President expressed his doubts if such obstacles occur due to lack of ability of the young entrepreneurs. “I think HIPMI members have the ability. I will check the detail with the Ministers, ” President Jokowi concluded.

Accompanied the President in the meeting were Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto. (BPMI/EN) (STU/EP/Naster)
