President Jokowi Encourages Young Generation to Unlock Talents Confidently
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (06/14) at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, welcomed the 17-year-old Indonesian singer Putri Ariani who received Golden Buzzer audition on TV show America’s Got Talent.
On that occasion, President Jokowi encouraged Indonesia’s young generation to constantly work hard and let their talents shine.
“The Government does not manage everything. There are lots of golden talents like Putri, but we do not manage the talents. Thus, you must be able to put in the effort and show up for yourself with full confidence as shown by Putri on America’s Got Talent,” the President said.
According to the President, Putri’s achievement at the event should serve as a source of inspiration for Indonesian younger generation since there are currently many opportunities for younger generation to show their talents.
“Putri has proved that there’s nothing holding you back when you have a strong desire. She is so inspiring for our younger generation,” he said.
As a form of appreciation, the Head of State would give prize money that Putri can use to leave for the United States this August.
In addition, the President said that he also would invite Putri to perform at the upcoming commemoration of Indonesian Independence Day if it did not interfere with her schedule.
“If Putri is available later on August 17, we will invite her. We do not want to be a distraction because preparation for going to America is the top priority,” he added.
On the same occasion, Putri expressed gratitude to the President for his appreciation and support. She did not expect to meet President Jokowi in person.
“I’m extremely proud and moved. It is incredible. I did not expect to be appreciated by the President himself. It feels amazing. Thank you very much, Sir,” Putri said. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (RIF/MUR)
