President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (08/11) reminded the nation to be vigilant of the food crisis and avoid the crisis by keeping staple food supply in check.

According to the President, ensuring national food supply is crucial amidst the ongoing food crisis.

In his remarks after inspecting “genjah” coconut trees in Samin hamlet, Central Java province, the President called for measures to ensure equal distribution of food to avoid supply gap between regions that can contribute to food price hike.

The Head of State also encouraged farmers to plant crops that can substitute imported commodities.

“For instance, we can mix wheat with cassava, sorghum, or sago. I believe it will reduce imports,” he said, adding that maintaining food inflation rate is also important so as not to put a strain on the people’s purchasing power. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/SLN/UN) (RAS/EP)
