President Jokowi Expects Better Cooperation between Government and the House

Bamsoet-300x169President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo welcomes the appointment of Bambang Soesatyo as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) replacing fellow Golkar politician Setya Novanto who officially resigned as House Speaker in December and is currently standing trial on corruption charges.

“The political dynamics that exist there is like that. As it is democratically elected, of course, the Government strongly supports the election that has been decided in the House. We are very appreciative, respectful of the decision,” President Jokowi told reporters after handing over 5,500 certificates for Tegal residents and its surrounding areas, in the Dukuh Salam Field, Slawi, Tegal, Central Java, Monday (15/1) afternoon.

The President hopes that with the appointment of Bambang Soesatyo as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the cooperation between the Government and the House will become better.

Earlier, following up the letter of Golkar Party Faction, the House of Representatives Plenary Session led by Deputy Speaker of the House Agus Hermanto, in Jakarta, Monday (15/1) afternoon, has approved the election of Bambang Soesatyo as the new Speaker of the House.

“Will the change of House Speaker from Setya Novanto to Bambang Soesatyo be approved?” asked Agus in the House of Representatives Plenary Session at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Monday.

The 307 members of the House of Representatives present at the Plenary Session then responded “agree” to Bambang Soesatyo’s appointment as the Speaker of the House.

Bambang Soesatyo then swore an oath guided by Supreme Court Chief Justice Hatta Ali. (UN/AGG/ES) (MUR/YM/Naster).
