President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (02/09) attended the peak event of the 2023 National Press Day at the Multipurpose Building of the Government of North Sumatra Province in Deli Serdang regency.

“On behalf of the people, on behalf of the Government, let me wish all Indonesian journalists wherever you are a happy press day,” he said in his opening remarks at the event that adopted the theme of “A Free Press, A Dignified Democracy.”

The President also expressed appreciation for the contribution of the national media to Indonesia.

“Thank you to the national press for your contribution to the nation and the state. Since the beginning, the media have made great contribution to voicing the struggle for independence, voicing development innovations, and supporting democratization,” he said while sharing his personal experience with the press.

“I am always accompanied by journalists everywhere I go, be it to villages, to markets, to fishers’ villages. It has been proven that media crews have made opportunities for commoners like me; I became a president,” he remarked.

After closing his remarks, President Jokowi typed “HPN” on a typewriter to mark the celebration of the 2023 National Press Day.

Following this event, the President is set to visit two markets in Medan city, namely Bakti Market and Halat Market as part of his working visit to North Sumatra province. At these markets, the President will distribute social assistance to the vendors.

In Medan, the President is also scheduled to inspect Amplas Bus Terminal and inaugurate Amplas and Tanjung Pinggir Bus Terminals. (RSF/UN) (DH/MMB)
